As an Adjunct Professor at the University of New Brunswick, Dr. Pohle's academic work is in the area of crustacean biology, particularly the elucidation of evolutionary relationships, but his exposure to a wide variety of other invertebrates has led to applied research and teaching in the area of biodiversity monitoring and environmental impact assessment.

Biography of W illiam J. (Bill) McAlister

After a lenghty career as a police officer, I retired in 1995 and moved to St. Andrews, NB to attend the New Brunswick Community College Boat Building course. While attending the college I developed a strong interest in the natural beauty of the St. Croix Estuary. Through friends, I became involved in SCEP as a volunteer helping to develop the Estuary profile and vision documents.

To date, I have been involved in producing an oil spill contingency plan for the St. Croix Estuary, training in various aspects of oil spill clean-up, water and sediment sampling for monitoring projects, the Atlantic Coastal Action Program, and the Clam Resource Committee.

As a volunteer, I found an opportunity to be involved in numerous "hands-on" projects that have been interesting, educational, and well worth the time invested to help preserve and protect one of the most beautiful Estuaries in the world.
